Kennedy Has Successful Brain Surgery

I was just reading this story a few minutes ago at Yahoo News, concerning Senator Edward Kennedy's brain surgery for removal of a tumor. I had initially made a joke about his entering the hospital a few weeks ago, and apologized when the severity of his problem was announced. My thoughts are of his successful recovery from this surgery as well as the chemotheraphy and radiation that he will be facing. My 22 year old niece had over a years struggle with brain cancer~surgery and subsequent radiation and chemotherapy~and is currently cancer "free" and trying to live a normal life.

I would like to mention one part of this story that should make people aware of our countries health policies. Senator Kennedy has a great health plan through the Senate, in addition to being wealthy enough to buy the best care, which is not the case for most people. We had a fund raiser for my niece, but even with a relatively good health plan, everything that she and her husband had went to finance her fight, with nothing but debt left over. She is alive and hopefully she will have a long future ahead of her, but for many others without any resources the future is not as bright. Perhaps this very blatant case of the wealthy getting the best of everything~including life saving medical care, is the sad truth of our nation, and make us as a nation finally do something for those who fall between the cracks, and die because of there situations!

The story reads:
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy underwent what his doctors called successful surgery Monday to treat his cancerous brain tumor.

"I feel like a million bucks. I think I'll do that again tomorrow," the 76-year-old Massachusetts Democrat was quoted by a family spokeswoman as telling his wife immediately afterward.

Dr. Allan Friedman, who performed the surgery at Duke University Medical Center, pronounced the operation a success and said it "accomplished our goals." Up next: chemotherapy and radiation, aimed at shrinking whatever is left of the tumor.
