Opening Kick-Off A Holy Day For NFL Football Fans
As we gather on this "holy" day (opening kick off) as the NFL Football season begins I wanted to share these very appropriate words for us Football "Idiots" , and wish you and your teams many happy games!!
Words can not describe how excited we are that football is around the corner. While everyone is sad to see the summer start winding down, that sadness is tempered by the fact that on Saturdays and Sundays for 4 months (5 if you count the NFL playoffs) we can turn on the TV or head to a stadium and revel in the joy that is football.
Football is a uniquely American game - with huge men fighting over precious territory, trying to advance a weird oblong ball. It inspires us to wear jerseys in public and scream at the top of our lungs. We wish ill will on opponents and cheer when the opposing team's quarterback is flattened. We root passionately for people we will never meet, many of whom represent cities that we do not live in - or rarely visit.
It’s an escape from reality. Watching a football game you can day dream that it's you that scored the winning touchdown, or that your boss is the receiver stretched out over the middle and you're the strong safety that's about to level him.
Football games are events you plan all week for -- there are few things better than getting together with friends in a parking lot to grill meat, drink beer, and talk about how your team is going to kick ass in just a few short hours (note - this no longer applies to SU). It's a time when guys argue about whether Brady fumbled or if Franco caught the ball. It’s a time to call your friends who disagree with you idiots and truly mean it. It’s a time of anticipation, because you never really know when the next Appalachian State type of upset will occur.
Sundays are worshipped at the alter of the NFL. Sundays are when your friends come over, you scream at the TV, eat big huge spreads of food and check your parlays and fantasy football results. Sundays are also for treks to the sports bar or restaurant that has the Sunday ticket because your game isn't on and missing it isn't an option.
Sundays in the fall are when you can get lost and forget that in a few short hours you'll be back at your desk killing time until next weekend. Sundays start with college highlights from the day before, and end with NFL highlights from that day – and in between, there’s nothing but glorious football.

You Are Invited To Join The Murderous Midwest Militia Football League
It is getting close to Football Season, and it has been quite a transformation for me over the years. I have gone from totally despising sports, to huge regrets for having never played on a school team. My brother Dale, was an awesome athlete, and participated in pretty much everything throughout his school career, and has the memories, and awards to show for his dedication, and abilities. All I ever did was make sarcastic remarks about athletes and their sports, but over time I realized you could be a good athlete, and be smart as well.
Anyway, I still am not a good athlete, but I have become a Football Fanatic over the years, and the last few years I have participated in the Fantasy Football leagues on MSN, and Yahoo, and had so much fun, that I started my own league this year. I know it is not like really playing, but it is fun in its' own way, for us non-athletes, former or current athletes who just want to have their own teams ;)
The League is called the Murderous Midwest Militia, and I have a friend who has joined it, but I still need 8 teams for it to be a full league. IT IS A FREE LEAGUE, so it does not require anything but your time!!
If you would like to join, please send me an email at danielcarvelkepler@yahoo.com, and I shall send an email back with the sign up information and link.
Thank You!!

Jason Cole Forecasts Best And Worst Football Games Of 2008
I had to try and post this story, as it was about the football, and that supersedes pretty much everything else. I was just reading this story at Yahoo Sports by Jason Cole, and it is his analysis of the best and worst games of the upcoming season. I will try and post the Real posts after this, but I have been fighting a signal problem all week. It seems that Bennigan's now offers free wifi, or at least they have an unsecured network, and their signal is fighting Panera's signal for supremacy on my computer. So instead of having one weak signal that I could work with, I now have two weak signals, which are switching on and off, and I have so far attempted to post this since 10:30 this morning, without luck. I get just about ready to publish and the signal switches, and I get the "this page cannot be displayed" message~~and then I start all over. It is very frustrating, and is making me a little crazy, well I guess "crazier" would be the operative word, in my case :)
So enjoy the Football Story if it works this time and then I'll re-attempt the beginning of the 9/11 series!! Thanks~~
Before we infuriate fans in almost every NFL season with our second annual list of the best and worst games of the 2008 season, we have one observation to make: New England is officially the first team in league history to have a two-month exhibition schedule. How’s that? Well, after the annual parade of four non-counting games (We beg you Roger Goodell, please reduce that to two games ASAP), the Patriots have a decidedly easy first five weeks of the season. They open at home with Kansas City, travel to the New York Jets, host Miami, get a bye week (like they’re even going to break a sweat in the first three weeks) and then go to San Francisco.
Subsequently, New England’s first four games will be against teams with a combined record of 16-48 last season. Then they go to San Diego in what figures to be one of only four serious tests for the Patriots. Sure, there’s another great matchup at Indianapolis set for Nov. 2, not to mention games with Pittsburgh and Seattle. But the Patriots have a total of 12 games against non-playoff teams from last year.
The Pats could make another run at perfection just by accident.
With that in mind, here’s a week-by-week look at the best and worst of what 2008 has to offer:
