Anchor Cut Gulf Internet Cable

It would appear after some conflicting reports that there was no terrorist link to the cutting of the Gulf Internet cable.

It is being reported that an abandoned anchor was responsible for cutting one of the undersea Internet cables severed last week, causing disruptions across the Middle East and parts of Asia, the cable's owner said Friday.

FLAG Telecom repair crew discovered the anchor near where the fiber-optic cable was severed Feb. 1 in the Persian Gulf, 35 miles north of Dubai, between the Emirates and Oman. Weighing more than 5.5 tons, the anchor has been pulled to the surface. The company did not immediately explain whether the anchor moved and snapped the cable or whether the cable itself was drifting when it was sliced.

It will be interesting to see how security is increased, because even if this was not intentional this time, it very well could be next time!! We need to be vigilant in every area of our lives, as the goal of any terrorist is not necessarily to always kill, but to disrupt our lives in any way possible, and this would be one that would affect alot of people, with minimal effort, and with the additional benefit of being an "accident"!!

Have A Safe And Warm Weekend!!
